19 maggio 2020
The fair’s organiser announced new dates for the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) today, in a commitment to the industry to create business opportunities within the current season. GILE is known as an influential and innovative design and technology marketplace, which fosters business and partnership building and provides networking and education opportunities while helping to ensure a sustainable future for the industry. The fair will move from its original June date to 30 September – 3 October, and will take place alongside Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology at the China Import and Export Fair Complex, Guangzhou.
Commenting on the new show date, Ms Lucia Wong, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd explained: “This year GILE celebrates its 25th anniversary, and over this quarter-century the fair has become an integral part of the lighting sector. While the industry is going through a uniquely challenging time, we believe that it is important to ensure the fair still goes ahead this year to support all our stakeholders and provide a chance for the industry to rebound. This is also what the sector has been feeding back to us, therefore the two fairs will move to the end of September, and we will be doing all we can to provide opportunities for the industry to move forward.”
2020 show theme: ‘THINKLIGHT: Empower the next’
The theme for this year’s show is ‘THINKLIGHT: Empower the next’, which will be demonstrated through a diversified exhibitor profile and a number of new events:
Smart lighting and UV technology showcase
Demand for specialty lighting applications such as UV disinfection lighting is rising due to an increasing number of patients in healthcare facilities, as well as the growing need for sterile manufacturing areas in the pharmaceuticals industry. As a result, UV LED technology will be added as an application area to the fair in 2020. In addition, the smart lighting segment will expand to cover smart drivers, control systems and sensor technology.
THINKLIGHT: Empower the next Forum
“It is often not easy to keep shining in the lighting industry, and especially during the last few months the sector has faced even more significant challenges and changes. However in the spirit of being positive and forward looking, the new market dynamics is encouraging us to think outside the box from a technical, market and design perspective, and our Forum this year is designed to assist with this,” Ms Wong explained.
This edition the THINKLIGHT: Empower the next Forum will have two perspectives. One is business strategy, with renowned speakers and exhibitors invited to participate in panel discussions to share their forecast on the future industry landscape, as well as ways to overcome current challenges in the market. The other perspective, technologies & innovations, will feature exhibitors and associations presenting and sharing the latest technologies and product advancements.
Industry report and white paper presentation
With the cooperation of industry media Alighting, the Alighting Symposium 2020 will be launched this edition. It will cite a white paper on smart city and smart outdoor lighting applications, and in-depth presentations will be conducted by academics, industry opinion leaders as well as corporations.
Business matching sessions and round-table meetings
A series of business matching sessions and round table meetings, segmented by product category, will take place during the four-day fair. These will provide more face-to-face and in-depth encounters between exhibitors, visitors and other industry professionals to create more business opportunities.
The 8th Alighting Award Ceremony: sharing the fruits of the industry
For the past eight years, the ‘Alighting Award – Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition’ has celebrated passion and commitment to the industry. Through a range of events, the award has promoted research and innovation which helps to facilitate the lighting industry’s sustainable development. The eighth Alighting Award Ceremony will be held during GILE 2020. To date, over 2,050 applications from 741 businesses, 33 universities and 186 individuals have been received, which is a 29.6% increase compared with the last edition. 217 Excellence Awards and 15 Aurora Awards will be granted after voting and review sessions conducted by 161 adjudicators from 10 countries and regions, while the Best Award will be reviewed by nine panellists and announced during the fair.
